What we build
We build wood and composite decks, pergolas, railings, and stairs, and we repair and re-deck existing structures when the framing underneath is still sound. Whether you want a simple grilling deck off the back door or a two-level space with built-in benches, the process is the same: design it around how your family actually uses the yard.
Wood or composite?
Here is the honest tradeoff. Pressure-treated and cedar decks cost less up front, but they need cleaning and re-staining every couple of years, and even well-kept wood shows its age in this climate. Composite costs more on day one and then mostly leaves you alone: no staining, no splinters, and color that holds. If you plan to stay in your home a long time, composite usually wins the math. If you’re selling in a few years, wood may make more sense. We’ll walk you through both numbers and let you decide.
How a deck project works
We design the deck, handle the drawings your village requires, and pull the permit. Footings go below the frost line, which matters in northern Illinois more than almost anywhere. Then framing, decking, railings, and stairs, followed by a walkthrough with you before we call it done.
What drives the price
Size and material are the big two. Height matters too, since a raised deck needs more structure and railing. Stairs, built-in seating, lighting, and pergolas each add to the number. We itemize the quote so you can see each piece.
Common questions
How long does it take? Most decks take one to two weeks of build time after the permit is issued.
Do I need a permit? Almost always, for a deck. We prepare what your town needs and handle the process.
How long will it last? A well-built composite deck runs 25 to 30 years. Wood runs 15 to 20 with regular care.
